| Professor Tewari has a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the Wesleyan University. He also has a doctorate in music from the Banaras Hindu University. He received Sahityaratna from Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. At present he is associated with the Sonoma State University. He's a visiting lecturer at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. His publications include: "Music in the Indian Diaspora of Trinidad", Caribbean Studies Press, 2010; "Folk Songs from Uttar Pradesh", India. New Delhi: D.K. Printworld. 2006; "A Splendor of Worship: Women's Fasts, Rituals, Stories, and Art", New Delhi: Manohar. 1991. He also has a number of discs and records under his names: "Bhajan: A Rainbow of Devotional Songs", Svar Sadhana 1998; "Morning Glory: Indian Classical Vocal Music", Svar Sadhana. 1995. "Laxmi G. Since independence, a new wave of educated youth and those hopeful of economic success are striving to match the demands of modern technology. The rural environment used to be independent of and unaffected by urban and international lifestyles is changing (or has already changed) and young generation is comfortable in this new environment. Professor Tewari's Fulbright-Nehru research will seek to understand how much the pre-independent rural lifestyle is understood by the young generation. |
